Kartini Day at School

This week we celebrated Kartini Day.  Kartini was a young women in the late 1800's who could speak English and became fascinated by articles from Europe about the emancipation of women.  She began advocating for the rights of girls to be educated and made a huge difference to the lives of women in Indonesia before dying at a young age.
The Indonesian teachers decorated the school, planned an assembly where each class performed a song or dance, arranged for costume rentals for expat teachers and put on a traditional Indonesian lunch.
.All the children wore the traditional dress from the area where their family is from.  Each island has a different style of dress. They all came to school looking like little princes and princesses!  Quote from Aaron. "Ms. Susan, you look like a queen!"

The feast table is decorated.
